Cedar Park, Texas

The archaeology says that what is now Cedar Park has been the home of Texas natives for over a thousand years. As likely as not, the proximity of Lake Travis and the herds of deer that today graze casually in suburban front lawns were the main attractions for pre industrial cultures. About a hundred years ago, a train depot made the area the perfect spot for a country day trip just 16 miles from Austin's urban center. The recent growth of the greater Austin area has produced the expected number of bedroom communities and this is Cedar Park's current claim to fame. The 1990 census pegged the population at just over 5 thousand residents. The new census will show a population of more than 60 thousand. With that background, there are wonderful stories of the community and its growth from home of nomadic tribes to home of tribal nomads.
