On Storytelling: |
“A man who tells secrets or stories must think of who is hearing or reading, for a story has as many versions as it has readers. Everyone takes what he wants or can from it and thus changes it to his measure. Some pick out parts and reject the rest, some strain the story through their mesh of prejudice, some paint it with their own delight. A story must have some points of contact with the reader to make him feel at home in it. Only then can he accept wonders.” |

Reunions are Important if you have Memories I am stunned. I never thought I would live long enough to see this day. When I left high school, I was on the wrong side of every statistical indicator. I still believe that pretzels and porter are basic food groups that are enhanced by a dark cigar. Kale is a weed that can be controlled if sprayed regularly. A checkup is something I do for my computer. None the less, in the same year that my oldest grandson graduates from high school, I received an invitation to the 50th reunion of my graduating class. It just never occurred to me that I would live this long. |
